Minutes (21/10/2009)

1st meeting on emulsions.
this meeting will be called occasionally, cordinated by Aki.

general comment as LHEP
we have a big expertise on emulsion, personnels, a large number of scanning microscopes.
after the OPERA, we cannot just throw away this. keep on this activity for future projects.

status of each current projects.
- OPERA : good
- T2K : good
- Radiography : pending. a meeting with American, Doug Bryman next monday 26th.
- Medical app. : a paper soon

Tomoko reported an idea of new experiment.
nu-tau cross-section measurement.
- higher statistics for nu-tau detection (x10-100 of DONUT)
- study of Ds production in proton-interaction.
discussion is on-going among Bern, Napoli, Nagoya, Tomoko, Giovanni, Komatsu.
this could be interesting in future years.
goal to publish letter of intent or a paper as soon as possible.

idea of 0 nu w-beta decay is shown. could be interesting for future.

many activities could be, but problem on emulsion availability.

3 possibilities are investigated by Aki
- FUJI FILM.
no more R&D
>200kCHF for 200,000-300,000 OPERA-like films.
gathering money among Bern, Japan, Italy?
- SLAVICH.
Free for R&D, but maybe take time.
1st film produced in Aug. exposed to pion beam at CERN.
no good result both as gel and as films. need more R&D.
Igor is contacting.
- Pouring by ourselves. a experience in Gifu university is reported.
Gel would be available by minimum 50kCHF. (FUJI)
SLAVICH gel will be also possible.

a proposal from Antonio :
1. buy some amount of the gel from FUJI together with Gifu university (maximum 20kCHF).
2. ask SLAVICH to make the films with the gel.
Ariga & Igor will work for this direction.

Dark room in CERN.
check the responsibility of this dark room. belongs to whom, which experiment.
if there is no more responsible person, let's take over the role by us.

6th microscope for non-OPERA purpose.
if it's idle, should be used for OPERA. in this sense, we put plate-changer.
both dry/oil lens will be used.
larger glass plates is forseen for bigger size of films. (20cm x 20cm).
we would switch microscope configulation.
opera-size-glass <--> larger-glass. dry <--> oil.
but not switch every day. time scale of switching would be months.
badget ok.
decision of order was taken.

re-organization of room 803-804 is proposed. agreed.
make 804-803 as clean room. make a clean room buffer at entrance of 804.
put air conditioner also in 804.
put microscope 6th in 804.
storage area of emulsion in 804.
clean room for EXO will be moved at the entrance of 804.
all action will be taken place next year.
