Operation Hower Bantiger (Prometheus)

MISSION AND OBJECTIVES

• Second preparation for first data. We will do data mining, Swiss and world wide analysis. In this process we will learn to run on big samples, identify missing tools and pieces. The dates are June 8, 9 and 10. The room is B52.
• Learn to get data. Learn to run your jobs on the grid.

PREPARATION

• (We assume that we are used to Athena and ROOT. If this is not the case, you may take a look at Operation California from last year and the Workbooks: https://twiki.cern.ch/twiki/bin/view/Atlas/AtlasComputing)
• Fill in a list of needed datasets
• Get grid user certificate and register to ATLAS VO:

  * Certificate you get here : https://ca.cern.ch/ca/. You also have to export your certificate and transform it into a pem pair which has to be placed 
     in ~/.globus. Instructions you find on the webpage.
   * VO registration with your certificate : https://lcg-voms.cern.ch:8443/vo/atlas/vomrs 
    (You need you certificate in the browser). And the /atlas/ch group should be ticked in Phase II of the registration (when confirming the email).
    (gives prioritized access to our resources managed by Sigve)

INFRASTRUCTURE (Hardware)

• Logins and interactive usage on lheppc51 and lhepp44 as usual.
• Swiss grid clusters : lheppc50.unibe.ch (Bern T3), nordugrid.unibe.ch (Bern UBELIX T3), arc01.lcg.cscs.ch (CSCS T2), grid03.unige.ch (Geneva T3).
• Worldwide : See http://www.nordugrid.org/monitor/atlas, http://dashboard.cern.ch/atlas/.

INFRASTRUCTURE (lheppc51 tells you how to setup upon login)""

• voms-proxy-init -voms atlas:/atlas/ch (the voms- tools handle your proxies, i.e. access to grid resources)
• dq2-, tab to see all the possibilities. These are the ATLAS DDM clients
• The panda monitor may help you to find data sets too: http://panda.atlascomp.org/.
• ngsub -c nordugrid.unibe.ch yourjob.xrsl. The ng... tools are the ARC clients.
• edg-, glite-, lcg-... tools are the gLite clients.

COMMENTS ON THIS JAMBOREE

• A very effective way to disseminate tacid knowledge.
• Apart from practicing on really large data sets, my goals were met.
• UBELIX may still need some investigation. Production is running full. Analysis also completed, but results did not come back.
