Inclusive studies

Scope

  • Inclusive searches using b-tagging (FullSim)
  • Collaboration with Belgrade group (Jelena Kristic (editor of this section) and Marija Milosavljevic)
  • Expected time-scale: studies to be performed during October (and November?)

Collaboration; manpower, tasks, duties

  • We need to distribute tasks (Borge, Nicola, Cyril, (...Sigve))
  • We need to use compatible code; everyone need to use/implement use the agreed-upon object definitions (and cuts); need to ensure that we get identical numbers for identical purpose
  • Everybody must feel responsible to pursue required topics
  • Everybody must feel responsible for communication with the Belgrade group
  • We need to start using more correct/realistic/robust definitions of significance (within BAT + follow discussion in Note 5 group)
  • Everybody should have a look at the Note 5 meetings in the agenda to get a feeling for the various topics studied (which now are relevant for us)
  • Everybody should read up on b-tagging

Topics, issues, ideas

Cuts

  • Possible study: Release cuts from the default ones I: loosen Pt of jets; drop transverse mass?; do scan [Need to find out if current samples allow for this. Might need to use Atlfast, will then need to check comparison with FullSim (not necessary by ourselves).]
  • Possible study: Try the 2/3-jet channels instead of the default 4-jet channel): do scan
  • Possible study: Study b-tag definition (weight); make scan. Also try with a b-veto.
  • Possible study: Sit down and think hard on what other variables, cuts could be useful: event shape variables? transverse mass (between Pt(lepton) and EtMiss) ...
  • Needed (pre)study: Get an understanding of all relevant (used) variables: plot SUx and bck as a function of these quantities. Plotting one by one will not give full info since there are correlations, investigate the most apparent correlations

Samples; background, signal

  • Have two sets of SM background monte carlo: SET1: the one produced with McAtNlo/Pythia (T1, J6, ...); SET2: the one produced with Alpgen (tt0, tt1, ...).
  • We need a decision on how to deal with this double set of backgrounds: For now we have mainly been using SET1 (T1)
  • Task: Download the samples we don't have locally. Check Belgrade Note 5 presentations for summary of available/relevant samples.
  • Possible study: Compare the two sets
  • SUx points: which ones to study (all?)
  • There is a new low-mass (high cross-section) SUSY point: 6403. This has not yet been studied, could be relevant for our inclusive-b channel.
  • Idea: Are there parts of the parameter space where the inclusive-b channel could be particularly relevant? The inclusive-b channel may be part of the scan work done for the last section.

FullSim/Atlfast

  • In the scan section (last section) of the note Atlfast data will be used. Within this context Atlfast/FullSim comparison is being performed. This will result in some correction procedures for use of Atlfast. We need to keep updated on this work (if we use Atlfast). We could also make own contributions.
  • Should investigate and understand any difference (other than name?) in the Atlfast ntuples produced by the AtlfastProduction task force (susywg* samples) and the Atlfast ntuples produced centrally (e.g. SU3) [I don't think there is any difference] and as a side-step in the FullSim (this is also included in the SusyView ntuples).

Who does what (first version)

Borge

  • Calibration: Have already code compatible with the Belgrade numbers
  • Have produced plots/tables for standard cuts && 0-4 b-jets && 0-1 leptons (significance for inclusive-b is always lower than for inclusive)

Nicola

  • Calibration: Rewrite program to: use newest SusyView samples, use the agreed-on object definitions:
  • ? Cut investigations: get an overview ?

Cyril

  • Calibration: Extend program to also run on SusyView samples with agreed-on definitions
  • ? Atlfast/SV comparison (also needed for exclusive SU4 analysis) ?
  • ? Cut investigations to get an overview ?

Sigve
